At the end of our time in Australia we planned out an extraordinary tour of Asia before heading home. We said our sad goodbyes to Sydney and boarded a plane for points north and slightly west. Our first stop on the tour was Bali.
A brief visit to Bali during our Asian tour of 2017. Here you will see photos taken while staying at the Bali Intercontinental Resort in Jimbaran in southern Bali, Indonesia.
We arrived just in time to celebrate Nyepi, the Balinese New Year. Nyepi is the most important and sacred Hindu holiday on Bali.
On Nyepi Eve, Balinese carry enormous scary creatures called Ogoh Ogoh through the streets of Bali. It's a sight to behold!
The next day hotels must cover their windows, all shops are closed! No lights or candles are lit in any Balinese home, no cars or bikes on the road and no people.
It's a unique experience that we did not plan on during our visit but so glad we did!
Bali is a very poor country economically but rich in culture and natural beauty. It is often called the "Australian Cancun" as so many Aussies travel there for quick get-aways.
